Pirelli to trial new compound in Mexico as tyre selections announced

The selections for the US-Mexico-Brazil triple-header have been announced by F1's sole tyre supplier.

Pirelli is set to test a new 2024 C4 tyre compound in practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix as it announced its tyre selections for the upcoming triple-header. The United States, Mexico City and Sao Paulo races take place on consecutive weekends between October 20th to November 5th, with the Austin and Interlagos races set to host Sprint races. For these two events, Pirelli is bringing the C2, C3 and C4 compounds in its range, as the Hard, Medium and Soft tyres, respectively. The middle leg of the triple-header in Mexico will feature a selection of tyres a step softer than in previous years - and for the other two races. The C3 will become the Hard, the C4 the Medium while the C5 is set to become the Soft. During practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, teams will be allocated two sets of the experimental compound per driver to use at their pleasure throughout the two hours of practice. Of the six compounds available to Pirelli in 2023, it has not brought the C0 compound to any race while the hardest selection of C1-C2-C3 has been used at high-load races such as Spain, Britain and Zandvoort. For the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, Pirelli is set to bring the C1-C2-C3 compounds.
