Pirelli seeking new qualifying trial location after Imola cancellation

Formula 1's tyre supplier was set to trial a new qualifying format at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Pirelli have revealed that they will aim replace Imola as the trial location for proposed qualifying format tweaks, along with running another trial at the Hungarian Grand Prix later this year. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was going to be the location for Formula 1 to test small changes to the qualifying format, where teams would use different tyre allocations in different parts of qualifying. If qualifying was to take place in dry conditions, teams would have used the Hard compound tyre in Q1, the Mediums in Q2 and the Softs in Q3. The tweak to the format, if successful and approved for future races, would enable Pirelli and Formula 1 to reduce the number of tyres used in a Grand Prix weekend, helping sustainability targets. Following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna GP, Pirelli told our associated publication Motorsport Magazin that a trial was also scheduled for the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend in July. Pirelli also confirmed that they will be entering into discussions with Formula 1 and the FIA to find a replacement trial venue to replace Imola.
