Norris confesses he 'messed up' Qatar qualifying

Lando Norris has voiced his frustration after a difficult day of running at the Lusail International Circuit that cost him P2 on the grid.

The McLaren driver appeared to be one of the fastest competitors behind Max Verstappen during qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix.

In Q3, the Briton's duo of attempts were enough to seal a position on the front row alongside the Red Bull driver.

However, on both occasions, Norris exceeded track limits which forced the stewards to delete his lap times.

As a result, Norris will start the Qatar Grand Prix from 10th on the grid - his lowest position since Miami.

“I just had a correctional of oversteer and I went off,” Norris explained.

“The team has done a good job, I just messed it up.”

With the Sprint Shootout and the sprint race to come on Saturday, there are still opportunities available for McLaren to pick up points.

However, Norris admitted that it is difficult for him to focus on anything other than his lacklustre qualifying.

"I can’t think like that, I just think of the job I’m meant to do today which is put in good laps and make no mistakes, that’s all I did today," he said.

"[It] was not a good day for me."
