Magnussen against rivals in Qatar heat debate

Kevin Magnussen has revealed that he had a different experience behind the wheel at the Qatar Grand Prix compared to other drivers.

Last weekend at the Lusail International Circuit, the Formula 1 field was subject to difficult conditions amid sweltering heat in Qatar.

The 57-lap race saw the drivers push throughout as there was a maximum stint length of 18 laps imposed on each set of tyres due to their reaction over the kerbs.

It resulted in a number of drivers feeling unwell throughout, with Logan Sargeant withdrawing himself from the race as he struggled.

However, Magnussen says that he only felt the rough effects of the race after he stepped out of the car at the conclusion of the Grand Prix.

“It was mainly getting out of the car,” the Dane told media including RacingNews365.com.

“So as soon as you stop there's all this heat. I got really dizzy and it was just the heat.

“Out there [on the track] was OK, I didn't really... I felt hot but it was OK. I felt nauseous at times.

“It was the hardest race ever for sure just because it was so hot. I mean unbelievably hot. It was a long race.”

When asked if the conditions were too dangerous for the drivers to compete in, Magnussen replied: “I don’t know… we don't do it for free.”
