Formula 1 winter testing moves from Barcelona to Bahrain

With the recently announced postponement of the Australian Grand Prix, a gaping hole has been created in the calendar which is set to be bridged by moving the winter tests from their traditional venue in Barcelona to Bahrain.

Given that Bahrain will now host the opening race of the season, the winter test will also move to the same venue with the tests provisionally scheduled between March 12th-14th. This change will likely cause teams a few logistical headaches as Bahrain is considerably further away from their bases compared to Spain. The teams themselves would like the test to be scheduled as close to the grand prix as possible, though the FIA rulebook mandates that there must be a minimum of 10 days between the last day of testing and the race itself. It is now left to the teams to decide how they will best allocate their time between the test and the race weekend.
