Ecclestone excited about F1 again due to Hamilton/Verstappen duel

Bernie Ecclestone might no longer be the boss of F1 but the former CEO admits he is keen to watch the sport since the Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen battle for the championship started to play out.

Bernie Ecclestone admits he is excited about watching Formula 1 again thanks to the title battle playing out between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The fight for the World Championship has been closely fought so far, with Verstappen currently leading Hamilton in the standings by 12 points. Former F1 boss Ecclestone is keen to see all of the action now, having seemingly not found the recent dominance of Hamilton and Mercedes quite as exciting. "Up to now it's been 'Lewis is going to be on pole' and 'Lewis is going to lead from the start to the end' and that's it," Ecclestone told Reuters . "Nobody's that excited about it. "I'm keen now to watch all of [the] practices and all the races." As for who might emerge as the winner in the battle, Ecclestone believes that it is too unpredictable to guess. "If you said to me, 'I've got to sell the house and put all the money on one of them, what would you do?'" Ecclestone continued. "I'd say I'd probably go and play roulette, because anything can happen." Whilst he is unwilling to bet on the victor in the championship, Ecclestone has given his backing to Verstappen in regards to the Dutchman's decision not to be involved with the Netflix series Drive to Survive .
