Rosberg X Racing win maiden Extreme E event

Nico Rosberg's Extreme E team, Rosberg X Racing, have won the first ever event held by the series, Saudi Arabia's Desert XPrix.

Rosberg X Racing, the Extreme E team owned by 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, have claimed victory at the maiden event of the series, the Desert XPrix in Saudi Arabia. The new series, an all-electric extreme rally style event with vehicles similar in appearance to Dakar buggies, has kicked off its maiden campaign in Saudi Arabia. Rosberg's team went head to head with Lewis Hamilton's X44 entrant, as well as Andretti United's car in the final. This was a head to head battle over two laps of the unique desert circuit. Rosberg X Racing's Molly Taylor crossed the line to claim the win, having taken over at the driver switch from Johan Kristofferson, winning by 23 seconds over Andretti's Catie Munnings after taking over from Timmy Hansen. Hamilton's crew of Sebastien Loeb and Cristina Gutierrez finished in third place. Sainz XE finished in fourth place overall, with Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz sharing driving duties. The opening weekend of the series attracted quite a bit of attention on social media, due to some dramatic and high-speed crashes on the tricky terrain.
