Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer has responded to the statements made regarding his driver Liam Lawson and a close call with two marshals during the Mexico City Grand Prix.
After making an early pit stop at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Lawson came across two marshals who were clearing debris at the exit of Turn 1.
Lawson voiced his disbelief with the situation over the team radio and asserted he “could have killed them” in the frightening incident.
The Mexican motorsport federation assigned blame to Lawson, suggesting he could have done more to de-escalate the seriousness of the situation. The FIA, however, absolved Lawson of blame.
Bayer has accepted the FIA's ruling and highlighted that there was little more Lawson could have done in the circumstances.
"We have spoken intensively with the FIA to help clarify this matter," Bayer told Sky DE.
"I believe the FIA's investigation is also still ongoing. But they have made it pretty clear that Liam did everything correctly. He followed the regulations."
Bayer also commended the team communication amid the incident, praising Lawson's race engineer for warning him of the danger that lay ahead.
"His race engineer alerted him early, thank God, that there were double yellow flags in front of him,” he said.
“So I think this is mainly an issue for the FIA and the local organisation in terms of communication. Where or what exactly went wrong?”
