Liam Lawson F1 News

Liam Lawson finished second in Formula 2 in 2022. He also competed in a season in the DTM. The Red Bull protégé had a busy work schedule in 2023 and was regularly involved in promotional work. For example, in 2023, he drove an RB7 around the famous Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia. The New Zealand driver also raced last year in the Japanese Super Formula and served as a reserve driver for both Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri.

He competed in several Grands Prix for AlphaTauri as a replacement for the injured Daniel Ricciardo. He expressed his ambitions to drive permanently for AlphaTauri, and it was uncertain whether this would come to fruition. Unfortunately for Lawson, it was confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo would be driving for the Italian team in 2024.

Liam Lawson at AlphaTauri

During the 2023 Formula 1 season, Lawson's name was often mentioned in the media. Indeed, Lawson - along with Daniel Ricciardo - was on the list to replace Nyck de Vries or Sergio Perez. This was because De Vries and Perez performed less than their teammates Yuki Tsunoda and Max Verstappen in the first half of the season. Daniel Ricciardo eventually stepped into Nyck de Vries' AlphaTauri seat.

Lawson replaces Riccicardo

At the Dutch Grand Prix, Liam Lawson replaced AlphaTauri driver Daniel Ricciardo because he broke his hand. After a crazy race, he managed to secure P13. Liam Lawson will also be seen on the grid as Ricciardo's replacement at the Italian Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix and the Japanese Grand Prix. The Kiwi also scored his first points at the Singapore Grand Prix with a P9.

Lawson no longer a driver for AlphaTauri

Liam Lawson performed exceptionally well in his four races within the AlphaTauri team. The New Zealander finished ahead of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda in three out of four races and earned two points for the Italian team. Unfortunately, he couldn't complete the season, as Daniel Ricciardo made his return during the United States Grand Prix. As a result, Liam Lawson is no longer a driver at the AlphaTauri team.

Liam Lawson's Move to Red Bull 

Following the 2024 Formula 1 season, it was announced that Sergio Pérez would be leaving Red Bull. A competition then ensued between Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson for the vacant seat. Ultimately, the New Zealander was selected. As a result, Liam Lawson is officially a Formula 1 driver for Red Bull in 2025, partnering with Max Verstappen. However, this promotion was short-lived, as the New Zealander had to make way for Yuki Tsunoda after just two races, resulting in his return to Racing Bulls.
