It was widely anticipated, and now we know for certain, that Pierre Gasly will be an Alpine driver for 2025 and beyond after signing a new multi-year deal with the French team.

But who will be his team-mate?

Team principal Bruno Famin has said he will take his time deciding who will partner the Frenchman and replace the departing Esteban Ocon, who was informed a month ago his services would no longer be required after the end of this year.

Several drivers have been linked, most recently Carlos Sainz, who is F1's most wanted as the Spaniard is also being chased by Audi and Williams after being told before the start of the season he would be ousted in favour of Lewis Hamilton.

Reserve driver Jack Doohan is a known quantity and a proven mainstay of the team this year given the midnight oil he has burned in the simulator in helping Alpine try to improve its under-performing car.

Valtteri Bottas is also in the mix as he is not expected to continue with Stake beyond this season. The Finn is highly experienced and knows how to build a team around him.

We should not forget Mick Schumacher. The former Haas driver and Mercedes reserve joined the Alpine driver pool this year as part of its World Endurance Championship line-up. Alongside Doohan, he is due to test a two-year-old car at Paul Ricard next week.

And then there is Zhou Guanyu, Bottas' team-mate at Stake. He is a former Renault junior, serving as the test driver for Renault and then Alpine in 2020 and 2021 respectively. He would also open up the Chinese market to the Alpine car brand.

But if not one of that quintet, then let us know in the comments section below as to who you feel would serve as the ideal team-mate to Gasly.
