Perez plans to showcase ‘mental strength’ after Mexico crash

Sergio Perez is determined to show his mental strength by immediately bouncing back from his Turn 1 crash in Mexico during this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Perez made contact with Charles Leclerc on the opening lap of his home race last weekend and suffered terminal damage.

The Red Bull driver admitted that it was the saddest result of his F1 career as he aimed to turn around his difficult season on home soil.

Perez has struggled for form throughout the campaign and is currently fighting to end the year second in the Drivers' Championship behind team-mate Max Verstappen, currently holding a 20 point advantage over Lewis Hamilton with three rounds, plus a Sprint, remaining.

Red Bull has never achieved a one-two in the Drivers', with Perez keen to demonstrate his mental strength starting in Brazil.

Perez not thinking about next F1 contract

"I think it's a great opportunity for me to show how strong I am mentally and how I think," Perez told media including RacingNews365.

"As an athlete, you always have these sort of moments, but the most important thing is how you overcome them and how you recover from them."

Perez's future at Red Bull has been a prominent talking point amid his difficult season.

The Mexican currently has a deal in place until the end of next year with Red Bull reiterating on several occasions that Perez will at least see out the term.

Amid his difficult run of form, Perez asserts that he is not thinking about his next contract.

"I think when you are going through a difficult patch you want to focus on the racing side," he said.

"There are so many rumours about my future that I just don't have any energy for that.

"I just want to focus on Sunday, and that's why I have my manager for [everything else]."
