Oscar Piastri has explained his calm demeanour towards F1 is a result of not wanting negative emotions to have an impact on his form.
Piastri is currently partaking in his third F1 season and is in the thick of an F1 title fight against team-mate Lando Norris, taking the lead of the standings for the first time with his victory in Saudi Arabia - the third from the first five races in 2025.
The Australian driver is known for his laid-back approach to any situation that arises in F1, and has not been one to last out when things have not gone his way.
Similarly, Piastri has not celebrated wildly when he has achieved podium results or race wins and has seemingly mastered keeping his emotions under control.
But amid assumptions over his relaxed personality, the 24-year-old asserted there have been times when he has been overcome with emotion.
“I have been [emotional] a couple of times through my career,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365. “When there are negative emotions, yes it does have a negative impact.
“I think it comes somewhat naturally, being calm and trying to stay relaxed, but there's a lot of conscious effort on that as well.”
However, Piastri has suggested on the occasions he does become emotional, he keeps them for when the TV cameras are not pointing at him.
“There’s also positive emotions that are there as well,” he said.
“I said after China, if you had a camera on me that you could see my face, I was pretty damn excited.
“There are emotions out there. The radio is a button for a reason, and you use it when you think you should.
“There's probably more that you don't see under the helmet. But for me, that's just how I approach it.”
