It has been reported by De Telegraaf that McLaren recently inquired into Max Verstappen's contract situation.

According to the Dutch outlet, McLaren CEO Zak Brown explored the possibility of signing the four-time world champion from Red Bull

Verstappen is contracted to Red Bull until at least the end of 2028; however, its motorsport advisor Helmut Marko refused to rule out the Dutchman leaving before then ahead of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

Brown confirmed the inquiry himself, but insists it was purely to obtain some information. Concrete talks between McLaren and Verstappen never materialised, with the Woking-based team now having two drivers on long-term deals.

Lando Norris is contracted with McLaren until at least the end of 2028, whilst Oscar Piastri signed a new multi-year deal ahead of his home race.

It is believed that Piastri's new contract will see him remain with McLaren through the 2029 season, keeping him with the team for another four years.
