Max Verstappen has told George Russell to "next time bring some tissues" after Russell's furious comments over their Spanish Grand Prix collision.

Following the late restart, Verstappen was on the hard tyres and nearly lost the car out of the final corner, just hanging on.

Charles Leclerc then got past on the main straight after contact, with Russell then forcing Verstappen wide at Turn 1 and through the run-off.

Red Bull told Verstappen to give the place back immediately, which he then did at Turn 4, before ramming Russell at Turn 5.

For this, he picked up a 10-second time penalty, which dropped him to 10th from fifth, and then picked up three penalty points, moving him to 11 for the 12-month period. He is now just one point from a ban.

Reacting to Russell's stinging criticism, Verstappen was unrepentant.

"Okay, well, next time I'll bring some tissues," Verstappen said when presented with Russell's comments.

"He has his view, I have my view, and honestly, it is just better to focus on the race, which was quite okay until the safety car."

When then pushed by RacingNews365 for a view on the incident, Verstappen claimed that it was a "misjudgement."

He then added that he would not "necessarily" speak with Russell, and that "I have nothing to say, and that in life, you shouldn't regret too many things, you only live once."
