Former F1 driver David Coulthard believes Lando Norris' winning performance at the Singapore Grand Prix mirrored that of past legends.

Norris commanded the race on Sunday after starting from pole position, crossing the line almost 21 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen.

It marked Norris' third victory of the season and the second in which he has stretched out a gap of over 20 seconds to the car behind.

Coulthard hailed Norris' drive around the Marina Bay Street Circuit despite the McLaren driver having two near misses with a barrier.

“It was a master class in a kiss without removing a corner [of the car]," Coulthard told Channel 4. "It shows he has it down to perfection.

“The only one that really surprised me was at the end of the lap when he had that lock up, and then ended up, I think it was at Turn 14, just touching the Tecpro barrier there.

“Otherwise flawless. What a performance. Human and machine in perfect harmony.

“He was like that from first practice on Friday, had the upper hand on Oscar [Piastri], who did a really solid job to come back through and pick up that podium.”

Coulthard gets 'squeaky voice' over Norris

Norris currently sits 52 points down on Verstappen in the drivers' standings with six rounds remaining in the championship.

The Briton is looking to narrow the gap in a bid to claim his maiden F1 title and stop Verstappen from taking a fourth successive championship.

Coulthard asserted that Norris, in his current form, resembles drivers such as seven-time champions Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, as well as Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna.

“Lando, he’s so humble and so approachable,” Coulthard added. “He doesn't realise how great and significant his performances are right now.

“I’ve sort of got a squeaky voice here, but I want to put him in the sort of, you know, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton at-his-best type of performances.

“We can all win a grand prix by getting a bit lucky, but this was exceptional.”
