Nick Cassidy has revealed that it is Jaguar's "goal" to claim both championships this season, although he has stressed that his previous success at Envision does not mean he has "brought something" to the team to elevate them.
Envision – Jaguar's customer team – clinched the Teams' Championship last season, mostly thanks to Cassidy having won four races and featured on the podium a total of eight times.
The factory outfit want to win the title themselves and signed Cassidy ahead of Season 10 to increase their chances. Cassidy partnering Mitch Evans has formed one of the strongest driver line-ups on the grid and the current standings prove it.
Jaguar sit top of the championship currently following the opening three rounds, with the Coventry-based outfit sitting 31 points ahead of DS Penske. Cassidy is largely responsible for the side's early advantage, as Evans has encountered difficulties out of his control at every E-Prix this year.
In his opening three races for the factory Jaguar squad, Cassidy has secured three podiums, one of which came in the form of a victory. Unsurprisingly, he leads the Drivers' Championship by 19 points. Evans sits in fifth.
Cassidy expects Evans to eventually start performing better than him, something which will simply support the team's push for both titles in Season 10.
Both titles 'a goal'
Following a question by RacingNews365 during a roundtable with select media, Cassidy downplayed the usefulness of his past experience winning the Teams' Championship with Envision and stressed that Evans will improve.
"Yeah, look, I think everyone here, I mean, we're gunning for both titles," Cassidy said. "For Jaguar TCS racing, it certainly is a goal as well. I reckon, you know, Mitch is going to have his day and he's going to outperform me a lot.
"I'm waiting for that. That's going to happen. But that's going to be great for us as a team too. So we're quite lucky I think with the driver line-up and the position that we're in. I think it's probably unfair for me to say that I have brought something, I think that this team knows how to win and how to be strong and hopefully together we'll be in the mix for that too.
"Which there's certainly a long way to go but I think everyone here has confidence that we can get that one done."
