Fernando Alonso has revealed that some F1 legends have created a special time capsule- to only to be opened on the 100th anniversary of the sport in 2050.

F1 is celebrating 75 years since the inception of the world championship in 2025. It resulted in all 10 teams gathering for a special launch event at London's o2 arena in February.

The day beforehand, Alonso was a guest at a special F1 legends dinner, which included the likes of Bernie Ecclestone, Luca di Montezelemo, Mika Hakkinen, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell.

At the dinner, he revealed that the legends had clubbed together to create the time capsule only to be opened in a quarter of a century.

"I was the only contemporary driver there, I think Lewis [Hamilton] and Max [Verstappen] were busy," Alonso told media including RacingNews365.

"It was good to have the opportunity to see a lot of familiar faces, like my first boss Giancarlo Minardi, Bernie [Ecclestone] and Luca di Montezelemo.

"Mario Andretti was there, who I admired so much, and we all wrote on some paper a phrase or whatever we wanted to write.

"The box was closed and it will be opened in 25 years, for the 100th anniversary of Formula 1. It will be nice for the next generation to open that box and see what is written."
