Unwanted F1 ranking topped by new driver after horror crash

A chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix saw multiple crashes throughout the weekend, including a major incident for Gabriel Bortoleto during the sprint race.

The seismic shunt into the opening corner inflicted major damage on his Sauber car and has propelled him to the top of the F1 'destructors' championship'.

Bortoleto was also involved in a crash on the opening lap of Sunday's grand prix, bringing his total expenses from the weekend to over €2 million.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, it has put him at the top of an unwanted list, placing him ahead of previous leader Yuki Tsunoda for the most money destroyed in F1 crashes.

Tsunoda suffered a damaged front wing during the weekend in São Paulo, bringing his total expense across the season to €2.9m - €0.2m less than Bortoleto.

Interestingly, championship leader Lando Norris is third on the list after his big crashes in Saudi Arabia and Canada. 

Also present inside the top 10 is Jack Doohan, who only took part in the opening six rounds of the year. However, his big bill was largely racked up during a major collision in Japan. 

At the bottom of the list is Max Verstappen, having taken on the least amount of damage this year. He “only” cost Red Bull €200,000 for minor incidents in Miami, Austria and Brazil.
