Michael Schumacher has signed an F1 crash helmet that will be auctioned off for charity, with the help of his wife Corinna.

Schumacher has not been seen in public since suffering a serious brain injury in a skiing accident in December, 2013.

The seven-time champion was part of an exclusive group of F1 drivers who signed a helmet that will be worn by Jackie Stewart in the build-up to the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Stewart will drive his 1973 championship-winning Tyrell car around the Bahrain International Circuit on the 60th anniversary of his grand prix debut.

The helmet Stewart will wear has been signed by all 20 living F1 champions, including Schumacher, whose hand was guided by his wife to pen his 'MS' signature.

An auction that will include the sale of the helmet will then be held, with the proceeds being donated to Stewart's Race Against Dementia charity.

The charity was founded in 2016, a handful of years after Stewart's wife Helen was diagnosed with dementia.

Stewart's run in Bahrain, featuring the helmet signed by Schumacher and fellow F1 champions, will take place 20 minutes before the start of Sunday's race.

“It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause – a disease for which there is no cure,” Stewart told Daily Mail

“His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us.”
