Lewis Hamilton makes Ferrari 'changes' vow in hunt of Monaco record

Lewis Hamilton has asserted his car requires very little tinkering following a positive day of practice at Monaco.

Hamilton ended the second practice outing in third place, lapping just one-tenth down on team-mate Charles Leclerc, who set the fastest lap time.

Ferrari has endured a difficult start to the campaign as Hamilton is still awaiting his first podium with the Italian squad.

However, a strong opening day of running put Ferrari at the head of the pecking order as it seeks its most competitive showing to date.

Having voiced frustration over traffic during the day, Hamilton asserted it did not take away from the thrill of driving the track.

“It was amazing, it was awesome,” Hamilton said. “It’s the coolest track ever to drive. It’s the most fun, every year it’s such a blast.

“It doesn’t matter what car you’re in, of course it helps when you’re in a car that feels good and is quick.

“But with the grip, the speed, it’s narrow, fast, it’s the best roller coaster ride of the year.”

Hamilton's best grand prix result in the opening seven rounds with Ferrari came last weekend at Imola, where he took the chequered flag in fourth.

As he awaits that coveted first win with the team, Hamilton could become the first driver in F1 history to win the Monaco Grand Prix with three different teams this weekend following previous success with McLaren and Mercedes.

As he seeks to take another step forward, Hamilton detailed he is not expecting to make big changes to his car set up.

“It went smoothly, FP1 was a bit of a challenge with traffic and everything,” Hamilton added. “FP2 was much, much better.

“I’ve got a little bit of time to find, Charles is very quick. But otherwise, a good session.

“The [lap] time, I would say, there is more to find in my driving, in lines, in braking. I’ve got one-tenth, for example, at Turn 1.

“But there are bits here and there throughout the lap. The car, there are subtle changes they [Ferrari] need to make. I will not be making many changes at all.

“We might change one small thing like a quarter of a degree of camber, or something like that. But that will be it.”
