Lando Norris has revealed that "it's just too difficult" to get his McLaren into the "perfect window", due to the characteristics of the Circuit de Monaco.
The Briton had a mixed opening day to the Monaco Grand Prix which saw him finish first practice in third, before slipping to fourth in second practice.
Concerningly, he was just over three-tenths slower than Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who set the pace at his home venue.
Despite not being able to match Leclerc's pace, Norris was pleased with his performance and is feeling comfortable with his MCL39.
"It's always good fun here," said Norris. "It's always stressful, but, yeah, good fun. Just difficult to get some clean laps and things at times.
"But I think a nice feeling, felt comfortable from the beginning, but need to progress more in some areas."
Whilst Norris felt good in the car, he was almost three-tenths slower than Oscar Piastri, who was Leclerc's closest challenger.
However, the Australian complained after second practice of struggling getting to grips with the MCL39 in Monaco, something Norris understands.
When asked why Piastri could be finding the car difficult to get to grips with, Norris replied: "It's difficult to describe the things. But we're talking small things like, it's not huge, but when you're talking about hundredths here and there, it's small things that add up.
"But it's just too difficult to get the braking right, to get the cornering right, to get the the tyres, the grip, the feeling all in the perfect window.
"There isn't one answer for the question there. It's many different things."
