Horner's wry observation over Marko power struggle claims

Towards the end of the 2023 season, there were claims of a power struggle between Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner and Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko.

Christian Horner has noted that "it is easy for others to wind the situation up" after claims of a power struggle between himself and Helmut Marko.

Around the time of the United States Grand Prix, reports emerged of a struggle between Horner and Marko for control at Red Bull, but were flatly and quickly denied by Horner.

Marko is not an employee of Red Bull Racing, but a Motorsport Advisor to Red Bull GmbH, and as such, Horner has no direct influence over Marko as Red Bull Racing CEO and Team Principal.

The claims emerged after Marko was forced into apologising to Sergio Perez for remarks claimed he was from South America and this mindset was what made him unable to maintain performance levels like Max Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel - both European.

Horner has now put forward the idea of rivals in the paddock deliberately stoking the idea of a power struggle with Marko.

Horner on Marko

"There is a certain degree of humour, reading some of the stories," Horner told media including RacingNews365 in Austin.

"It is amazing these days how a pebble can be dropped in the water in Brazil, and it can end up in a wave when it has reached Europe.

"But I think it also demonstrates that as we've tied up both championships, there's not a lot to be talking about, so it's very easy for others to wind the situation up.

"Helmut and I have had a great relationship since 1996 when I first met him, we have a very strong working relationship and nothing has changed."
