Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has revealed the deeper meaning behind Max Verstappen's radio singalong at the São Paulo Grand Prix.

Verstappen emerged victorious in the race, marking his 17th win of the Formula 1 campaign.

The Dutchman controlled the race from start to finish as he continues his dominant season in F1, having already secured his third title a handful of races ago.

Horner played the Tom Jones song Green Green Grass Of Home as Verstappen made his way back to the pit lane after the chequered flag.

Verstappen then joined in by singing along to the Number 1 hit song from 1966.

Speaking to media including RacingNews365.com, Horner revealed that the song has ties back to Verstappen's karting days.

'We learned something'

“We even learned something else about Max - apparently when he used to head back from the kart races his father used to play Tom Jones tracks over and over again,” he said.

“So I managed to put on the Tom Jones Green Green Grass Of Home on Radio Red Bull and he was singing along quite merrily.”

“I've got no idea why [for] a 26-year-old, why [it was] Green Green Grass Of Home. It was the most unlikely song.

“Jos [Verstappen] told me in Qatar that it was his favourite song, so maybe Paul could play it.

“I was thinking obviously after the Spice Girls I'm thinking he would be totally into Ed Sheeran or somebody you know the contemporary of his age range but Tom Jones?”
