FIA in discussion with Stroll over Qatar incidents

The FIA is "in discussion" with Lance Stroll over his antics at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Stroll failed to make Q2 for the fourth race in a row at the Lusail International Circuit, again struggling to match the performance displayed by two-time World Champion teammate Fernando Alonso.

The Canadian was visibly frustrated at the end of the session, throwing his steering wheel out of the car before pushing trainer Henry Howe at the back of the garage.

Howe was attempting to direct Stroll towards the front of the garage and down the pit lane towards the FIA weighbridge, as is compulsory at the end of a driver's session.

Stroll then gave a sharp seven-word interview to media to sum up his frustrations, though he insisted later in the weekend that his relationship with Howe was not damaged.

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack pointed to the high demands of professional athletes when calling for respect to be shown to his driver, who is under intense scrutiny over his performances in comparison to Alonso.

Aside from the Qatar Grand Prix, Stroll has failed to score a single point since the summer break, putting his place at the team under pressure from the outside despite his confirmation of a seat next season.

An FIA spokesperson said: "The FIA Compliance Officer is in discussion with Lance Stroll in relation to several incidents that may have contravened FIA rules, policies and procedures during the Qatar Grand Prix."
