Cadillac's chassis for its first F1 season has passed several crash tests, according to reports from Motorsport.com.
However, it is also well over the minimum weight limit. Therefore, the American team is now faced with the task of lightening the chassis without compromising the structure and integrity that contributed to the passing of the test.
It may be confirmation for the General Motors-backed squad that it is working in the right direction, but multiple, official crash tests will have to follow. A crash test is free to schedule and Cadillac appears to be taking advantage of that.
The most recent developments come off the back of good news from around the Miami Grand Prix weekend, when the fledgling operation, through GM, got its first power unit in operation on its test bench.
The prototype is an early stage in Cadillac's growth towards becoming an F1 OEM. The plan is to take that step from 2029 onwards, after three seasons at a Ferrari engine customer.
However, the wait continues to for the picture surrounding who will race for the team in 2026 to become clearer, with Sergio Perez still the driver most heavily linked to one of its two race seats.
