Marko demands Perez solution after qualifying blunder

Helmut Marko has demanded a solution be found for track limits after a lap-time deletion eliminated Sergio Perez in Q2 at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Perez had set a time good enough to advance through to Q3 at Lusail, but was pinged for track limits at Turn 5 on his 1:25.275 effort that would have seen him into the final segment.

Instead he will start 13th with team-mate Max Verstappen on pole position.

Track limits has long been a debate in motorsport, but Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Marko wants a solution found, or he fears a result not being known until "Monday morning."

Marko's solution

"You saw how many drivers exceeded the track limits, that's because of the white lines. Something has to be done to solve it," he explained to Sky Germany.

"There must be a solution to this in the future, because what do you do with this in the race?

"Otherwise, you will only have the results on Monday morning.

"We have enough tyres and we are exactly on schedule with our tyre plan.

"Checo has the advantage of having two sets of tyres left: he has to look at it positively."

As for pole-man Verstappen, Marko summed his session up by highlighting the "important changes" made to the car to give a "clear advantage" to the Dutch driver, who set the time on his first run in Q3 and didn't bother with the second.
