Leclerc voices concern over potential Ferrari test postponement

Ferrari has struggled for on-track performance of late, but Charles Leclerc has asserted it has little to do with the potential of the car's upgrades.

Charles Leclerc has detailed the rainfall that is expected to hit the Silverstone Circuit at this weekend's British Grand Prix could hurt Ferrari's test plans.

The Italian squad has struggled for performance at the last handful of races, having started the campaign as the second-fastest team.

In a bid to further understand its current package and the limitations it is presenting the team, Friday practice presents an opportunity to run back-to-back tests across both Ferrari cars.

However, scheduled rainfall on Friday will likely see test plans pushed back to Hungary in two weeks' time.

“There are no upgrades on the car,” Leclerc told media including RacingNews365. “However, it's obviously going to be very useful if it's not raining.

“At the moment, it looks like it's probably going to rain.

“So if it rains [on Friday] then maybe the test we wanted to do between both cars just to confirm a few things will have to be postponed to the next race.”

Leclerc confident Ferrari upgrades 'working'

Leclerc has not bagged a podium result since his home victory in Monaco at the end of May.

The Monegasque driver has asserted his confidence in the potential of Ferrari's upgraded package, but detailed finding the window to optimise their potential has become a difficult task.

“We are still trying to work out where we need to set up the car in order to maximise the potential of those upgrades,” he said.

“As I've said many times, the numbers that we were expecting from this upgrade are there. So the upgrade is working the way it should be.

“But it's more about where you run the car to optimise those numbers that we see. For now we haven't quite managed to do that so we are still working on that.”
