Leclerc future secured with long-term Ferrari contract

Charles Leclerc has signed a new contract with Ferrari, committing his future with the team beyond the 2024 Formula 1 season.

While there is no contract length specified other than "several years" by Ferrari, reports stated that his current agreement will run until the 2029 season.

The Monogasque made his debut with the team in 2019 and became the youngest driver in the history of the Scuderia to win a race with the outfit following his victory at Spa Francorchamps.

A week later he took a historic win in front of the Italian Tifosi at Monza, and in 2022 that was followed up with three more victories and second place in the Drivers' Championship.

At just 26 years-old, he is second on the list of drivers who have secured the most poles in a Ferrari car equal to Niki Lauda on 23. Only seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher is ahead on 58 poles.

Ferrari 'determined' to give Leclerc winning car

Leclerc has not won a race since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, which much of his 2023 season marred by reliability issues. Team Principal, Frederic Vassuer, claims the team is "determined" to give him a winning car and get back to challenging for championships.

"Charles’ bond to the Scuderia goes beyond that of just a driver and a team, as he has been part of the Ferrari family for eight years now, dating back to a time before he first sported the Prancing Horse emblem on his race suit," said Vasseur.

"His values and those of our team are intertwined and so it was natural for us to be in agreement on extending our collaboration. We know him for his incessant desire to push himself to the limit and we appreciate his extraordinary abilities when it comes to fighting and overtaking in a race.

"We are determined to give Charles a winning car and I know that his determination and commitment are elements that can make the difference in helping us reach our goals."
