Liam Lawson has revealed he was “let off” after making a mistake during his road car driving test.
All F1 drivers must possess a road car licence, which stands as one of the requirements to be granted a super licence to compete in F1.
However, Lawson has detailed his first road car test should have been a fail, with the examiner granting a pass despite a mistake.
“I’ll be honest - I did pass it but the guy let me off,” Lawson told F1.com. “I shouldn’t have passed it.
“You’re allowed three critical errors and I got four. He let me go.
“I did pass it, but I do feel a little bit of guilt knowing I shouldn’t have passed it.
“He said ‘I probably shouldn’t pass you here, you have four critical errors’. One of them was taking both of my hands off the steering wheel, which I don’t know why I would do that.
“I can’t remember a time that I would just drive with no hands.
“That was one of my errors, but then he said ‘I’m going to let you go with this one but make sure you drive with both hands’.”

Lawson details 'love' for F1
Lawson is not yet confirmed on next year's grid but has been linked with a promotion to Red Bull in place of Sergio Perez.
The New Zealander is currently competing for RB having been called up mid-season to replace Daniel Ricciardo.
When asked to detail what made him fall in love with F1, the 22-year-old said: “For me it was realising what the pinnacle of motorsport was.
“I loved cars, I loved motorsport as a kid, when I was very young, four or five years old. Then I started [racing] go-karts and I understood more of what the actual levels were.
“When I realised that F1 was the pinnacle, the highest level… For me, it’s about being the best, and being the best at something. I’m very competitive.”
