Krack enforces new 'rule' at Aston Martin after US GP

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack has enforced a new "rule" at the team, after their double pit lane start during the United States Grand Prix.

The team elected to make both Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso start the race from the pits, following a setup change under parc ferme conditions.

Specifically the team decided to revert Alonso back to the old Qatar-spec car, while keeping Stroll on the new car with the updated floor for Austin.

Stroll managed to make it back into the points by finishing ninth on the road, which turned into seventh owing to the disqualifications of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Alonso had to retire with six laps until the end due to damage to his floor, but was also running in the points.

"You have to accept that after three days of really hard work, there is a couple of smiling faces in the garage and this is also well deserved," Krack told media, including RacingNews365.

"But you have also to see what the missed opportunity might have been, and this is the reality.

Krack: On Friday we should have done our homework

With just an hour of practice owing to the Sprint weekend schedule, the team did not have a lot of time to optimise or understand their package.

Krack said the team has learned its lesson and will impose a new rule going forward when introducing big updates to their car.

"The fact is that on Friday we should have done our homework. We didn't do it and we had the consequences all over the weekend," he explained.

"Now, there is always the rule: don't bring the [car] upgrades to the Sprint weekend.

"Nevertheless, when you take the decision to do it you know what the risks are, then you cannot complain when it happens. But it's another lesson learnt. "
