Haas requests review of United States GP result

Haas is set to enter discussions with the stewards from the United States Grand Prix regarding the final classification of the race.

It is understood that Haas has raised an issue with the stewards over not taking some track limit breaches into consideration throughout the race.

With teams having 14 days to submit a request for review, Haas is still within the time period required to lodge its appeal.

An initial hearing is now set to take place in which the stewards will decide if there is new and significant evidence. If this is the case, then a full investigation will be opened.

Following the Austin race, allegations were made that several drivers had abused the track limits in sections where the rules were not being heavily policed.

Footage from the onboard cameras showed that a number of drivers had drifted beyond the white lines at Turn 6, but these breaches escaped penalties as they were not monitored on the official list of infringements.

The stewards admitted after the race that “whilst there might be some indication for possible track limit infringements in Turn 6, the evidence at hand is not sufficient to accurately and consistently conclude that any breaches occurred”.

However, the explanation was not taken in stride by Haas who finished the race in 11th place with Nico Hulkenberg.

Key to the proceedings is the submission of fresh revelations, which has often been the endpoint for appeals in the past.

Article 14.1.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code states: "If, in Competitions forming part of an FIA Championship, cup, trophy, challenge or series, or of an international series, a significant and relevant new element is discovered which was unavailable to the parties seeking the review at the time of the decision concerned, the stewards who have given a ruling or, failing this, those designated by the FIA, may decide to re-examine their decision following a petition for review."

Earlier this year at the Austrian Grand Prix, Aston Martin successfully protested the race results with the stewards handing out a further 12 penalties for track limit violations
