Jos Verstappen has criticised the FIA over its "ridiculous" decision to punish his son, Max Verstappen, for swearing ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.
The reigning world champion was punished for saying during an official Thursday FIA press conference ahead of the Singapore GP that his car was "fucked" in Azerbaijan.
Verstappen now has an obligation to complete community service, with the FIA's decision having frustrated the 26-year-old.
Following an unexpected podium at the Marina Bay Circuit, the three-time world champion hinted that the punishment could push him towards an early retirement from F1.
His father has a similar opinion of the punishment and noted that it is not just an issue in F1.
“I think that is the most ridiculous thing,” Jos Verstappen told Autosport. “But we also see it in rally."
Jos Verstappen was referring to a suspended €30,000 fine given to WRC driver Sebastien Ogier, for recently criticising officials.
The 52-year-old is not impressed by the job being done by the governing body, although was careful over his choice of words.
“I don't think the FIA is doing a very good job,” added Jos Verstappen. “But I won't say too much about this!”
