Jaguar looking to replicate 'very fond memories'

Jaguar Team Principal James Barclay is hopeful that the manufacturer can replicate what they did in last season's São Paulo E-Prix, something they have "very fond memories" of.

In São Paulo last season, Mitch Evans claimed victory ahead of Nick Cassidy – driving for Jaguar customer team Envision – and Sam Bird, in what was a Jaguar powertrain 1-2-3.

To this day, Jaguar are the only team in the Gen3 era to have locked out an entire rostrum, and the odds are in their favour this weekend. The Coventry-based side head to Brazil at the top of the Teams' Championship, whilst Cassidy leads the Drivers'.

They appear to have the best package and have used the lengthy break since Cassidy's win in Diriyah to be as prepared as possible for the fourth round of the 2024 campaign.

"Heading into São Paulo we are in a great position, top of both the Teams’ and the Drivers’ World Championship standings," said Barclay. "It has been a very positive beginning to the 2024 season but in this extremely competitive world championship we very much realise that this is only the start.

"We have taken a lot of positives and motivation from the first three races but also have been able to use the break in the race calendar to regroup and dissect our learnings as we prepare for our return to the track in Brazil."

'Key milestone'

What Jaguar achieved in Brazil last season was heroic and highlighted the strengths of the I-TYPE 6. São Paulo in 2023 was a significant moment in Jaguar's Formula E journey, and was topped by an extravagant podium.

Whether it can be replicated will be discovered on Saturday afternoon, but both Cassidy and Evans are certainly favourites for victory.

“São Paulo is a wonderful city and circuit, it holds very fond memories for us as a team," Barclay added. "Last year finishing first and third, with all three podium positions occupied by Jaguar powertrains, was a key milestone for us all.

"Celebrating with the Brazilian fans who love their motorsport was also incredible. We have seen how competitive this season is shaping up to be and we know it’s going to be very close across all teams and drivers, but we are approaching the race with optimism and will be doing our best to fight for points and podiums."
