Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has expressed his intent on Formula E racing in the southeast Asian country in the near future.
Formula E has never raced in Thailand, although there is a chance that the all-electric series could be venturing to the nation very soon. The government in Thailand want to host a Formula E race, with Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds having met the Prime Minister last week.
In the meeting with Dodds and Thavisin was also leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party and deputy chair of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
According to Thavisin, Formula E executives will be traveling to the northern city of Chiang Mai next week to to investigate whether it'd be possible to host a race in the area. Chiang Mai is situated just over 400 miles from the capital city of Bangkok.
There is currently a major shift towards EV cars taking place in Thailand, with 40% of the cars ordered in the country last year having been EVs. Because of the dramatic rise in EV cars in Thailand, Thavisin believes hosting Formula E is the next step.
“Therefore, I think it is good to bring the Formula E racing competition to Thailand to stimulate the economy and development of the country’s infrastructure while reinforcing the policy of reducing carbon emissions," the PM wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
