Jack Doohan could be set for a move to Japanese Super Formula as Alpine looks set to retain Franco Colapinto for 2026.
RacingNews365 reported earlier this week that Alpine is set to give Argentine Colapinto the second seat alongside Pierre Gasly for 2026, meaning Doohan's hopes of a return to the seat he lost after Miami appear to be over.
It is understood that Colapinto will be formally announced as a 2026 Alpine driver this weekend in Brazil, signalling Doohan's time with the team as coming to an unofficial end.
The Australian has been linked to a move to Super Formula in Japan, with a potential link-up with Toyota possible, but it is understood that at this time, only a mutual interest in a deal exists.
Doohan has continued to serve as a reserve driver since being demoted in May, with his future in doubt since January after Flavio Briatore signed Colapinto from Williams as reserve driver.
Alpine itself is set for major changes in 2026, with the team reverting from a works engine supply from Renault to a customer Mercedes deal under new team boss Steve Nielsen.
The team is currently last in the 2025 constructors' with just 20 points, with Gasly scoring all 20 as Colapinto and Doohan have not scored between them.
