Gasly hit with severe British GP penalty

Pierre Gasly will start the British Grand Prix from last on the grid following a complete power unit change in his Alpine. 

Heading into the Silverstone weekend, Gasly had already used four components of the internal combustion engine, turbo-charger, MGU-H and MGU-K - the maximum allowed of those parts, as well as the two permitted energy stores and control electronics. 

Article 42.3d of the sporting regulations dictates that if a driver earns 15 or more places in grid penalties, they must start at the rear of the grid.

The change in components was confirmed by the FIA. It remains to be seen if Alpine will opt to start the 28-year-old from the pit lane, in order to circumvent parc ferme requirements ahead of the race.

A number of drivers further extended the pool of power unit parts already in circulation, including Sergio Perez and the two RB drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda.

With comprehensive engines changes for each, all three find themselves on their fourth and final original pool parts.
