Ferrari F1 News

With Ferrari emerging as one of the winners from the technical regulation overhaul, they will be hoping to reduces the errors and continue their progression into 2024, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both remaining with the Italian squad.

A symbol of racing pedigree, passion and pride for millions of fans in Italy and around the globe, Ferrari are Formula 1's oldest and most decorated team, with 15 Drivers' and 16 Constructors' Championships to their name.

Since the outfit was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1950, the Scuderia have become one of F1's defining teams, with the likes of Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda dominating the sport for periods in the famous red livery.

The 1951 season marked the team's first victory in the sport, and in the following two years home hero Alberto Ascari brought the championship back to Marenello for the first time.

During the 1960s and early 1970s, Ferrari's fortunes dipped, and the team recorded their first absences from races since the sport's inception when they failed to compete in the 1973 Dutch and German Grands Prix, but their luck would soon turn with the hire of Niki Lauda for the 1974 season.

While Clay Regazzoni lost the World Championship that year in the final race of the season to Emerson Fittipaldi at the United States Grand Prix, the appointments of Lauda and Team Principal Luca di Montezemolo set the stage for a return to form in the following season. Ferrari won five races, along with the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships, in 1975.

Lauda was leading the championship in a tight battle with McLaren's James Hunt in 1976 when he suffered a serious crash at the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, though incredibly returned to the grid just six weeks later. While Lauda narrowly lost the title, Ferrari once more took the Constructors' Championship.

Following Lauda and Jody Scheckter’s titles in the 1970s, the team endured a dry spell for many years. However, they came back with a vengeance at the turn of the 21st century to take an unprecedented five championships in a row, with Michael Schumacher at the wheel and a pioneering engineering team led by now Formula 1 Managing Director Ross Brawn.

Lewis Hamilton makes a sensational move to Ferrari

After several years with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz as their fixed driver pairing, Ferrari will see a change from 2025 onwards. Lewis Hamilton will be joining the Italian team and will compete alongside Leclerc in 2025. With such a formidable driver pairing, expectations for the season are high, and many see the team as the favourite for the World Championship.

Ferrari's last World Championship in 2007

Kimi Raikkonen won the World Championship with Ferrari in 2007, but there have been no further titles since, despite the likes of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel leading challenges for the Scuderia.

After a difficult 2020 season, Ferrari showed signs of progress in 2021, helped by their strong driver pairing of Leclerc and Sainz. The team beat McLaren to take P3 in the Constructors' Championship.

The new technical regulations resulted in Ferrari becoming Grand Prix winners once again in 2022, with Leclerc emerging as their title contender early on. However, race errors and strategic blunders denied them a sustained championship push.

Ferrari in the 2023 and 2024 season

In the 2023 season, it quickly became evident that the Red Bull car was exceptionally dominant. They claimed to be fully focused on developing the car for 2024 early in the season. While competitors' upgrades failed to close the gap to Red Bull, most rivals, including Ferrari, also decided to shift their attention to the 2024 car. This presented Ferrari with the optimal opportunity to contend for the title in the 2024 season.

This decision proved to be a good one, as Ferrari remained competitive throughout the entire season and consistently scored many points. The team, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, managed to secure five victories in 2024, including their home race at Monza and the iconic Monaco. Ultimately, McLaren was just too strong.
However, with the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025, all eyes will be on Ferrari, making them one of the favorites for the World Championship.
