Pierre Gasly F1 News

Pierre Gasly had a difficult start to the 2024 season as Alpine's performance was significantly behind the other teams. Consequently, the team remained stuck in ninth place for a long period. However, the situation completely turned around at the end of the season. Gasly performed exceptionally well, particularly in the final races, and managed to score 42 points for the team, securing a tenth-place finish in the championship. How will the Frenchman perform in 2025?

Pierre Gasly F1

Born in Rouen, France, Pierre Gasly began competitive karting at the age of 10, competing for five years before graduating into single-seaters in 2011. In the French F4 Championship of the same year, Gasly finished third in the final standings, picking up three wins and seven podiums.

From there, Gasly raced in various forms of the Formula Renault series and captured the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title in 2013. After joining the Red Bull Junior Team programme in 2014, he finished second in the Formula Renault 3.5 standings, before progressing into GP2. The Frenchman would go on to clinch the GP2 championship in 2016 with Prema Racing.

F1 debut at Toro Rosso

Gasly’s rollercoaster Formula 1 career began in 2017, when he was called up to replace Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso for the Malaysian Grand Prix, before going on to earn a full-time seat at the team for 2018. After comprehensively outperforming his then-teammate Brendon Hartley, Gasly was promoted to the main Red Bull team for 2019 when Daniel Ricciardo announced his shock departure.

No success at Red Bull Racing

However, alongside Max Verstappen, Gasly failed to deliver on the promise he had shown for Red Bull's sister team, and lasted just 12 races before being demoted back to Toro Rosso in favour of Alex Albon. It could have ruined him, but for the remainder of the season, the Frenchman showed what he was capable of and even claimed his first podium, finishing second at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

First F1 win with AlphaTauri in Italy

That trajectory continued in 2020 with the newly-named AlphaTauri outfit as Gasly went one better, winning for the first time in F1 at the eventful Italian Grand Prix. He continued his progression in 2021 by becoming a natural team leader, with the squad welcoming rookie Yuki Tsunoda into the team.

Gasly scored the majority of AlphaTauri's 142 points in 2021, which helped the outfit to secure P6 in the Constructors' Championship, whilst Gasly claimed ninth in the World Championship standings.

The 2022 campaign proved to be more challenging for Gasly and AlphaTauri, with the Frenchman's best result a P5 at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The team slipped down to ninth in the Constructors' Championship.

Pierre Gasly joins Alpine

The Frenchman makes way for Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri and moves to Alpine. Here, he races alongside his compatriot Esteban Ocon in 2023. In 2024, Alpine experienced a challenging season, but the tide turned in the final races. Pierre Gasly scored many points for Alpine, together with his teammate Ocon, enabling the team to climb from ninth to sixth place.
