Following a commanding performance in Brazil, Lando Norris has wrestled control of the 2025 F1 title race from team-mate Oscar Piastri.
Leading by just one point following Mexico, Norris's faultless Sao Paulo weekend brought him 33 points, with Piastri crashing out of the Sprint and then receiving a penalty on his way to fifth - earning just 10 points.
That turned the one-point deficit for the Australian into a 24-point one, but is that gap big enough for Norris to claim the drivers' title in Las Vegas?
Put simply, no. Lando Norris cannot win the 2025 F1 drivers' world championship title in the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Heading to Nevada, there are a total of 83 points left on the table, from three grands prix (25 points each), plus eight for the Qatar Sprint race.
If Norris were to win in Las Vegas to haul the maximum 25 points, and Piastri were to finish outside of the points, or not at all, Norris would move to 415 points to Piastri's 366 - a gap of 49 points.
After Las Vegas, there will be 58 remaining, meaning Norris would still require 10 points to be mathematically certain. If Norris does win in Vegas and Piastri does not score, Norris would then be able to win the title in the Qatar Sprint race, provided he finished that with at least a 51-point advantage over Piastri.
Norris also does not require another victory this season. As it stands, if he were to finish second to Piastri in all three remaining grands prix and the Qatar Sprint, Norris would lose 22 points to the Australian.
But with an advantage of 24 points, Norris would still be the champion by just two points if that scenario were to play out.
