Further doubt has been cast over Logan Sargeant's Formula 1 career, following a report that Williams is considering replacing the American before next weekend's Italian Grand Prix.

Sargeant endured a disastrous Saturday at the Dutch Grand Prix, suffering a horrific accident in third practice that ruled him out of qualifying.

In a wet FP3 on Saturday morning, Sargeant touched the grass on the exit of Turn 3 and lost control of his car.

He flew straight into the barrier on the left side of the circuit, causing significant damage to his car and the barrier.

A lengthy red flag period was required for the marshals to repair the barrier and recover Sargeant's wrecked FW46, which quickly caught alight.

Miraculously, his car's chassis survived, although heavy damage was done to the engine and gearbox. As a result, Williams was unable to repair his car for qualifying.

Now, it has been reported by German outlet Auto Motor und Sport that the Grove-based team is considering replacing Sargeant before Monza next weekend.

Team principal James Vowles revealed to the same publication that he will not act on emotion, however Mercedes reserve and former Haas driver Mick Schumacher has been tipped as a possible candidate for the seat.

Entering the weekend, Sargeant knew he was to be replaced at the team next year by Carlos Sainz, who has signed a multi-year contract.
