Max Verstappen has been penalised by the stewards at the Qatar Grand Prix and will therefore not start from pole position.
The Dutchman has been handed a one-place grid penalty, meaning he swaps positions with George Russell for the start of the race.
Verstappen set the quickest lap time in the grid-setting session at the Lusail International Circuit, provisionally taking his first F1 pole since June.
However he was called before the FIA officials for an alleged breach of article 33.4 of the F1 sporting regulations, which relates to “driving unnecessarily slowly”.
To make matters worse, the Red Bull driver had a moment with George Russell, who qualified second, towards the end of their final preparation laps.
The Briton described it as "hairy" when speaking after the session, as he had to go through the gravel to take avoiding action.
Following a deliberation with the F1 stewards, the officials opted to drop Verstappen back one place on the grid.
It means Russell has taken his fifth career pole position and his fourth of the ongoing season.
