Schumacher family welcomes wonderful news in difficult times

December this year is marked not only by memories of Michael Schumacher's skiing accident 11 years ago, but also by the lawsuit against bad actors attempting to extort the family. Daughter Gina, however, has provided a bright spot.

Michael Schumacher is becoming a grandfather. Last weekend, his daughter Gina shared the happy news that she and husband Iain Bethke are expecting their first child, a girl, in April.

"We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our little girl," Gina Schumacher wrote on Instagram. It is the first grandchild of seven-time F1 drivers' champion Michael Schumacher and his wife, Corinna Schumacher.

The end of this month marks the 11-year anniversary of the 91-time grand prix winner's serious skiing injury, when after falling on his head during an off-piste outing, he fell into a coma.

Although he eventually regained consciousness after two months, no further updates on his condition have been provided in the years since, with the family opting for privacy on the status of his recovery.
