Carlos Sainz has hinted that he could have a new Formula 1 drive lined up after news broke of his leaving Ferrari to make way for Lewis Hamilton.

Rumours first surfaced on Thursday that Hamilton could be set to join Ferrari and partner Charles Leclerc from 2025, with the Monegasque having recently signed a new contract.

Sainz was locked in his own talks with Ferrari, but chairman John Elkann, a long-time Hamilton admirer, swooped for the seven-time World Champion, meaning Sainz is out after four seasons at the Scuderia.

Sainz's future has been in question, with the two-time race winner being touted as a possible Audi driver once it arrives and takes over the Stake operation from 2026 - and the Spaniard has hinted that a future seat could already be in the works.

"Following today's news, Scuderia Ferrari and myself will part ways at the end of 2024," Sainz wrote in a statement posted to social media.

"We still have a long season ahead of us, and like always, I will give my absolute best for the team and for the Tifosi all around the world.

"News about my future will be announced in due course."
