Sergio Perez has a clear understanding of what Red Bull expects from him, the Mexican has been brought in to help the Red Bull team get back to winning ways. With Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly failing to impress as teammates to Verstappen, the Red Bull team were forced to look beyond their driver academy for the first time since 2007. Their search ultimately led them to Sergio Perez, who understands what the team's ambition entails. "My previous teams have been very successful, but Red Bull - the ambition is very simple, it's just to win," Perez said to Sky Sports. "It is just a step up above everything I've been to, I've been very impressed with the team, with the car, with the level of engineering. The level of excitement is very, very different here. "It will be great just to race with similar equipment. To race with them throughout the season and I look forward to fighting for the title this year." In Perez, Red Bull certainly has a driver who is capable of delivering the goods, especially on a Sunday when the points are doled out. The Mexican seems to have been judged rather harshly after his solitary year at McLaren, but with the former Racing Point driver having his best season to date in F1 in 2020, he must feel like he is on the cusp of making another significant breakthrough in the sport. While Verstappen's two former teammates, Albon and Gasly, struggled to match the Dutchman's relentless pace, Perez should, in theory, present a much sterner test to Red Bull's current lead driver.
