Max Verstappen defeats McLaren duo as Lewis Hamilton hammered by Charles Leclerc

RacingNews365 takes a look at each driver's average finishing position from the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Despite missing out on the F1 drivers’ title, Max Verstappen achieved the best average finishing position across the 2025 season.

Excluding retirements, the four-time world champion recorded an average finishing position of 3.67, making him the only driver to finish, on average, better than fourth.

Remarkably, world champion Lando Norris did not even have the second-best average finishing position, instead ranking third behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Piastri’s average finishing position was 4.21, narrowly better than Norris’ 4.25. Interestingly, George Russell was only just adrift of Norris’ result, with the Mercedes driver posting an average finishing position of 4.54.

Completing the top five was Charles Leclerc, although the Monegasque was considerably adrift of the top four with an average of 6.75.

Despite not being close to the top spots, the Ferrari driver comfortably outperformed team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who had the sixth-best average finishing position at 8.5.

With an average of 9.83, Kimi Antonelli in seventh was the only other driver to record an average finishing position inside the top 10.

While Verstappen had the best average finishing position, Yuki Tsunoda was 12th on the list, with an average result of 12.58 — almost nine positions worse than the Dutchman.

To conclude Alpine’s dreadful season, its three drivers — Pierre Gasly, Franco Colapinto, and Jack Doohan — recorded the three worst average finishing positions.

Gasly managed an average finishing position of 14.58, considerably better than Colapinto’s 16.06 and Doohan’s 16.33.
