Alpine has reportedly entered the battle to sign outgoing Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey, according to German outlet F1-Insider.com.

Newey's Red Bull upcoming Red Bull exit early next year has been one of the biggest stories off the circuit this season, with several teams being in the mix for his signature.

The designer has been responsible for all of Red Bull's title-winning cars and does have experience of working with Renault.

According to the report, Renault CEO Luca di Meo and Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore have made contact with Newey, and have guaranteed him freedom of choice in all areas.

Supposedly, Newey is considering the offer, which would see him work closely with Enstone.

It would not be his first time doing this, with Newey having worked with Renault previously when they powered both Williams and Red Bull.

Aston Martin and Ferrari have both been heavily linked to the 65-year-old, although it is the former which is believed to be leading the race.
