Signature Newey hiring indicates Aston Martin F1 title ‘intent’

Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll has indicated that the signing of Adrian Newey and the completion of its new factory is a fine example of the outfit's "real intent". 

Since acquiring the Silverstone-based team with his consortium in 2018, Stroll has invested heavily in making the outfit capable of fighting for victories and, ultimately, F1 titles. 

With a brand-new factory, state-of-the-art wind tunnel and an entirely new management team, Stroll has ticked every box. 

Hiring Newey as Aston Martin's new managing technical partner is in many respects the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle, ahead of the introduction of the 2026 power unit regulations. 

The team has grown enormously in personnel and in terms of physical size in Silverstone, with Stroll outlining that Newey shares similar personality traits to the outfit.

"Well, Adrian is, arguably, the greatest in the world at what he does," Stroll said during a press conference for the signing of Newey. 

"There's nobody who's come close to winning as many world championships. He's a gentleman, he's a winner, he's a competitor, and he has the passion and desire to win, as do I and most of the people in this building.

"We started on a journey six years ago with this team on similar premises and a much similar ground, much smaller premises, much smaller building, and that's really when the journey had started."

Stroll investment

The level of Stroll's investment cannot be underestimated, with Aston Martin now having the technology and the facilities in its headquarters to build an entire F1 car. 

Stroll has put together a world-leading management and technical team, which has seen personnel, like Dan Fallows, Eric Cardile and Newey, join from leading outfits. 

Newey has been admired by Stroll for a long time, with the Aston Martin F1 owner having been trying to sign the 65-year-old the last couple of years. 

Following the signing of Red Bull's former chief technical officer, Stroll does not see any team in better shape for the future. 

"We've put together a fantastic management team, and building this premises was really showing our real intent," explained Stroll. 

"But to make this level of investment, to build a premises like this, non-existent before in F1, the first of its sort, it's so grand, but it's so special, we could build 100% of the car here. 

"We're going to have the first, greatest, newest wind tunnel built in over 20 years. That's a huge tool to make the car go faster, ultimately. So putting all that in place, the people, the premises, and then really looking for our technical leader. 

"And I had been trying to speak to Adrian for a couple of years. And I believe when things are meant to be, they happen, I'll let Adrian speak for himself. 

"I believe he shared my passion, intent and vision. And there really is no other F1 team that is poised for the future as we are. So can't be more excited to have Adrian on board."
