Carlos Sainz has confirmed he is close to making the final decision on his F1 future, admitting he does not want to "wait any longer" than he has to.

Carlos Sainz has confirmed a decision on his future in F1 will "be taken very soon", but insists he is still yet to make up his mind.

The 29-year-old has known for some time he will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season, after Lewis Hamilton's move to the Scuderia was announced in February.

However, he has not rushed the process of finding his next home in the championship - even if his options have been whittled down, in part, because of it.

Alongside the long-standing front-running option of Audi, Red Bull and Mercedes were thought to be in the mix early in the year.

In recent weeks, Williams has emerged from a potential dark horse contender for the Ferrari driver's signature into the most likely destination for him come 2025 - with some suggesting a deal has already been struck. However, Sainz denies that is the case, but does admit he wants a resolution soon.

"The latest is that a decision will be taken very soon," the three-time grand prix winner told media including RacingNews365.

"I don't want to wait any longer. I think it's getting to a point where it's obviously taking space out of my head for quite a few weeks now and months, and I think it's obviously time to make a decision, and the decision will be taken soon - so hopefully soon we will have things to talk about."

Sainz still unsure on who to join

Whilst Sainz has been able to spend some time back at home ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, his home race, it has not provided him with any more certainty on where he will end up next year.

"No. That's the thing, I'm still not sure one way or another," he replied when asked if he was any clearer in his mind as to who he wanted to join.

Having recently confirmed there were a number of options on the table, it appears Sainz is choosing between more than just the binary options of Williams and Audi.

"It's still something that I'm discussing with my team and brainstorming, and obviously I need a couple of days back at home," he added.

"Before the Spanish Grand Prix, I've been at home but you don't have the head in the future, you the head in the Spanish Grand Prix - it has been a very hectic couple of weeks after Canada for me, so I haven't had time to really sit down and take a decision, and this is what I will target in the next few weeks."
