Daniel Ricciardo

Ricciardo and Albon summoned by stewards after causing Japan red flag

The incident caused the race to be red-flagged on the opening lap.

Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon have been summoned to see Formula 1 stewards after the opening lap red flag at the Japanese Grand Prix.

At the start, Ricciardo moved to the right-hand side of the track approaching Turn 3 to take the racing line, but clipped Albon's Williams, sending both into the tyre barriers.

Both drivers were able to climb unaided from their cars as the race was red-flagged for nearly half-an-hour to allow for repairs to the tyre barriers.

The two must report to the stewards at 1645 local time for further deliberations.

The verdict for the incident can be read here after the stewards delivered their decision.
