Daniel Ricciardo news | Visa Cash App RB

It had been anticipated for a long time during the 2024 F1 season, but after the Singapore GP, it became a reality. The experienced Daniel Ricciardo lost his seat at Visa Cash App RB and was replaced by Liam Lawson, bringing an end to his rich Formula 1 career. The Australian drove in Formula 1 for thirteen years and was very beloved for his humor and known for his daring late braking during his time at Red Bull. In his career, Ricciardo achieved eight Grand Prix victories. It is currently unclear what his future plans are.

Return to Red Bull or seat at AlphaTauri?

There are also regular rumours during the 2023 season about whether Daniel Ricciardo might take over Nyck de Vries' seat at AlphaTauri or Sergio Perez's at Red Bull racing. Helmut Marko already helped out that Daniel Ricciardo will in any case not be seen at AlphaTauri, should the Dutchman lose his seat there. Nevertheless, he will come back to that later and first wants to wait for the Pirelli tyre test, which Ricciardo will perform. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also previously dismissed rumours about replacing Sergio Perez, but now Horner also wants to see how Ricciardo does and what he is capable of. Should that please him, there would be a good opportunity for the Australian to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car again.

For former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, it is all a bit clearer and Ricciardo will take over Nyck de Vries' seat after the summer break of the 2023 season, although he does not dare to confirm this with 100 per cent certainty yet.

Ricciardo does Pirelli tyre test

Ricciardo will, however, make his first metres in this season's RB19 after the British Grand Prix. He will spend three days running Pirelli's tyre test.

In any case, the Formula 1 race winner will not have to be bored. So he will also get to work as a real commentator on US TV for three races. He will do this together with actor Will Arnett.

Daniel Ricciardo breaks hand

Daniel Ricciardo crashed during the second Free Practice in the Netherlands, breaking his metacarpal bone. As a result, he couldn't appear on the grid for the Dutch Grand Prix, and he also missed the Italian Grand Prix. Liam Lawson replaced the eight-time race winner. The chances of Daniel Ricciardo returning to the car during the Singapore Grand Prix are very slim. Daniel Ricciardo's return after Zandvoort crash

After Ricciardo's crash in Zandvoort, the Australian driver had to miss the Italian, Singaporean, Japanese, and Qatari Grands Prix. However, his broken metacarpal bone had healed sufficiently for him to participate in the United States Grand Prix, where he once again became the regular driver for AlphaTauri. It has also been announced that Daniel Ricciardo will drive for the Italian team in the 2024 season.

Daniel Ricciardo F1

Known for his friendly demeanor and jovial personality, Daniel Ricciardo is one of F1's more colourful characters.
 

Born in Perth, Ricciardo began karting at the age of nine. After spending a few uncompetitive years racing in Australia, he won a scholarship to compete in the Formula BMW Asia series, where he finished third overall in 2006. A move to Europe saw him win the Formula Renault 2.0 WEC championship in 2008, before taking the British Formula 3 Championship in 2009.

Ricciardo also became part of the Red Bull Junior Team in 2008, a move that ultimately opened the door for him to land a seat in Formula 1. The Australian made his F1 debut at the 2011 British Grand Prix with the uncompetitive Hispania Racing Team, taking over from Narain Karthikeyan. In the following year he moved to Toro Rosso, where he spent the next two seasons before replacing Mark Webber at Red Bull in 2014. 
 

Once there, Ricciardo outperformed his more illustrious teammate at the time, Sebastian Vettel, scoring all three of the team's wins that season en route to third overall in the World Championship. 
 

Daniil Kvyat joined Red Bull in 2015 and, while the Russian outscored Ricciardo in the 2015 campaign, he was eventually dropped after a series of poor performances at the start of 2016. In came Max Verstappen and, after two years together where they were by and large evenly matched, Ricciardo decided to leave Red Bull for Renault. 
 

Ricciardo makes switch to Renault

He switched to Renault, where he drove around in the midfield for the past two seasons. In 2020, he managed to help the French racing stable return to the podium for the first time since its return to the premier class in 2016. He even made a bet with former team boss Cyril Abiteboul that if Ricciardo achieved a podium, he would get a tattoo. He kept his word and his tattoo has become a reality.

Ricciardo to McLaren

Following this stint, Ricciardo joined McLaren for 2021, but struggled in comparison to his teammate Lando Norris. A high point of the year came at the Italian Grand Prix, though, where the Australian took victory in McLaren's first 1-2 finish for several years.

Unfortunately, things did not go smoothly further at McLaren. In 2022, they therefore had reason enough to terminate the contract and give the seat to Oscar Piastri.

Third and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing

Ricciardo no longer found a seat in Formula 1, but he will not disappear completely from the king class of motorsport after all. Red Bull announced his return to the top team in the role of third driver alongside Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. In 2023, he will do test and simulator work and fill in if something happens to the regular drivers.

Ricciardo returns to F1 at AlphaTauri

Dreams are coming true for Ricciardo, as after news broke that Nyck de Vries will lose his seat at AlphaTauri with immediate effect due to disappointing results, it was announced fairly soon after that the good-humoured Australian will take over from the Hungarian Grand Prix.

It was officially confirmed in 2022 that Daniel Ricciardo is with model and actress Heidi Berger, but rumours suggest they have been dating since 2019. Berger is no unknown name in the Formula 1 world. In fact, her father is former F1 driver Gerhard Berger. The Austrian managed 10 victories in the king class between 1986 and 1997.
